New Sketch in the making

I am now creating a new sketch that will eventually be a large vertical Pastel Painting. So far I have been working on this sketch for two weeks now.  This new Floral painting will have a white rose, white daisies and small white trumpet flowers as the featured spotlight grouping.

The upper right section of the painting where the overlapping white daisy petals will be against the light background is where I begin drawing today. This white on white area is very difficult to draw and paint. There has to be subtle shading to distinguish between the forms and the background. However, once thought out and drawn in, the transparencies in this painting are going to be beautiful.

I figure another week to draw all the details in the sketch for this painting. Then I transfer this sketch to heavy acid-free water color paper that will be mounted on acid free foam core as my working surface for my Pastel Painting.

Finally, I can begin painting. To spend this much time on a painting my inspiration has to be a very strong one.   The inspiration for this painting was the natural arrangement I created that I could not look away from.  The way the flowers twist and turned left me breathless with the loveliness of these living beauties.  Now they will live on with all their majesty in my painting. But, do expect to see this large piece finished before four months for the layering of the pastel takes time to achieve the forever beauty that I feel.

I will periodically update with this blog with pictures of this new painting as it progresses.  I have been working on paintings in my Floral Collection for over ten years and my newest Pastel Painting is “Romancing the Rose” seen here is all it’s glory. Can you believe that today is Super Bowl 50?  What a landmark in the world of the NFL and Super Bowl! Which Team will make History!

Today it is the Young Panther Quarterback Newton with his grand smile and seamlessly fun attitude toward the game VS Manning the Broncos experienced Quarterback with his serious thinking attitude that has been through most everything in his lustrous career.  It’s going to be an incredible game!

Way back in 1999 I attended Super Bowl XXXIII and went back to my studio to create a 43″X 50″ Pastel Painting featuring John Elway.  It was a tremendous experience being there and creating this now historic Painting.  In memory of all the past Super Bowls I have brought back this timely image of the painting Super Bowl XXXIII with the winning Broncos. Enjoy!

Enhanced Fine Art Giclee Painting by L.A. CLINE

When Spring is about to change our world, I think of the day I saw the most beautiful bright sun-kissed Yellow Cattleya Orchid. This incredible flower stood 10½” high and was truly magnificent. It was so bright I could see the Yellow color from about 100 feet away. This was a magical moment for me and something I had to paint.

I was very surprised to see this Orchid that was in full bloom planted in an old pot under a tree with other empty pots. I started painting as close as I could to the orchid as not to disturb or move it. If you look at the painting, the dark green background symbolizes the dark area where this beautiful orchid was placed. There also an indication in the painting that there was a white plastic holder leaning against the bloom. The pink/orange part of the orchid allowed the orchid to bellow out with an even more vivid light yellow that at times had a translucent shimmer which made it even look brighter. The painting reflects the very same vivid yellow with the undeniable fantastic and beautiful shimmer that changes colors during the different lights of day.

Floral paintings are a breath of fresh air. Mother Nature gives us the beauty of our world and if we surround our environment with flowers and their painted images the energy of this beauty makes anywhere a wonderful place to be.

I have developed a process to make Giclee prints closely replicate the actual original painting by supervising the process and using the proper heavy acid-free cotton paper that the acid-free inks will adhere to giving the best representation of the painting. Since there is only one original I have come up with an idea to actually take the pastel I work with and enhance the paper Giclee by hand. Giclee prints are made to order and then each one is embellished by me, by hand to enhance each print to its finest quality. By taking the time to enhance each one individually each Giclee painting becomes a one-of-a-kind work of art since no two can be exactly the same.

Framing is such a personal thing and that is why I send the prints embellished, mounted but unframed. This Giclee Painting “Bellissima” was a part of the Floral Collection that was exhibited in Neiman Marcus, Fort Lauderdale at their “Trend Event”. I framed “Bellissima” with a modern solid wood gold leaf frame with museum glass measuring
18 1/2″X 22 1/2″ however, this Cattleya Orchid Giclee painting would also look great within a traditional frame.

It all started with a dream to paint Dolphin Quarterback, Dan Marino, back in 1996.

L.A. Cline started to paint two Pastel Paintings of Dan Marino, one a portrait and one an action scene, entitled, ‘The Game’ measuring 38”X45”. These paintings were the spark that lit the fire to continue painting Sports Athletes. By going to the games, experiencing the head to head combat between players, the strategies and passion to win all fueled the Artist’s desire to paint a new kind of Sports Historic Painting capturing these moments forever.

L.A. Cline states, “For me our athletes are like gladiators, fighting against all odds to win and stay on top.’ A quote by Vince Lombardi says it all, ‘The harder you work the harder it is to surrender’.”

Creating the Super Bowl XXXIII Painting was an incredible feat for the Artist. L.A. Cline “Seeing John Elway actually make that last winning touchdown was a thrilling moment. To capture and immortalize that moment within a 45”X52” Pastel Painting, is a work of Art to behold.”

The Artist starts with a pencil sketch to scale before each painting. One painting as large as this one with so many details took six months to finish. All the creations of L.A. Artist, L.A. CLINE, “Enchanted Bloom” Fine Art Stationery, Card 3 1/2″ X 5″

Writing this article is a joy because a very dear friend has been trying to have a baby for years and virtually gave up. She started Coach Erika Beauty Studio in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and decided that both her and her husband would concentrate on their careers.

This woman went through so much that conceiving was a dream. Well surprise!!!! The dream came true!!!! She is having a girl she chose the “Enchanted Bloom” Giclee Fine Art Card as the stationery for her invitations to the Baby shower.

My friend, Erika saw the original 38”X 38”, “Enchanted Bloom” pastel painting that I painted and just feel in love with its beautiful Light Pink Lavender Rose whirling round and round with very subtle petals encompassing the center bud that is about to unfold. I took the original painting and made small Giclee Reproductions on 80lb acid-free paper 5 ¼”X 3 ¼” Fine Art Stationery that has the most delicate deckled edge both on the end of the card and the envelope. Giclee pronounced (G-Clay) is the most accurate method of reproducing art. The term “giclee print” connotes a superior elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival inks.

Having your own stationery that you personally choose gives meaning to what is important in your life or it just may be something you think is beautiful and would love to share. Daoud’s Fine Jewelry Charity Event

It all happened at Daoud’s Fine Jewelry in Fort Lauderdale, the evening of December 9th when Patrick Daoud opened his store and his heart in celebration of giving back to the community through a very lovely charity that gives teens who are in and out of the hospitals battling life threatening illnesses such as cancer “A Prom to Remember”. Founder, Brandon Opre came up with the idea to give these young people the ULTIMATE Prom. Raffle tickets were sold and put in various bags to be drawn and prizes awarded. Artist, L.A. CLINE, a dear friend of Patrick Daoud was a proud participant donating an 8″X10″ framed canvas Giclee Reproduction of an original painting created by the Artist entitled, “Keeping Close”.

This beautiful replica of an original pastel painting of two horses a Dam with her Foal of just three and a half weeks wobbling to stand close to his Mother. The most compelling detail that draws you into this painting besides the protective love between Mother and baby is the fact that the Artist was in the pen with the horses. The viewer is looking directly at the horses in the pen with no fence in front of them. It took 30 to 40 minutes for the horses to calm down and feel comfortable. The owner of the farm and L.A. Cline loved the feeling being around these huge animals. The farm owner and the Artist practiced going into the pens in golf carts until the owner felt that L.A. Cline could walk in the pens and feel totally comfortable with the horses. The start of a New Pastel Painting, “Romancing the Rose

Here’s a Selfie of me just beginning this new Pastel Painting. It is going to be a large and very brightly colored work of Art measuring right now at 32″X 28″. I say that because I never know just what happens as I create a painting. Sometimes the size changes and I decide to add more and sometimes I need to reduce an area.

Besides the dynamic bright red rose in the center there are flowers all around in Bright Purple with Yellow centers and red berries too. To make this painting even more exciting there will be a Monarch Butterfly and maybe another type of butterfly. I am not sure yet. However I have planned to put in Bumble Bee’s and a lady bug.

This painting is all about the beauty of our world. The world we should protect and enjoy forever more.

So you will have to keep touching base with my blog and see this masterpiece develop before your eyes!!!!

Why do people become Artists? Out of all of the career choices out there, why do some people feel they must create art as a profession? Certainly, there are safer, more financially predictable ways to make a living. What exactly is it that drives a person to make this “unpractical” life choice?

The passionate need to express one’s self, experiences, opinions and visions can manifest itself in many ways. While we are born with this need and taught by parents, teachers and others as children, it is the few of us who fight to keep and develop the skills as an artist. It seems as though as soon as we begin our lives as artists, those of us who choose to keep, harbor, nourish and hone the inner artist are often thought of as flighty dreamers. Yet the reality is, few people live with the kind of passion, dedication, integrity, and commitment that gives persistence and will to believe you are truly born an Artist.

The artist feels a marrow-deep need to document the legacy of being alive in this era, in this place, in this moment. The artist needs you to see the things that you are overlooking in your daily routine of “living.” The artist grabs you by the shoulders, stops you in your tracks, or alternatively shakes you out of your hypnosis to remind you that once the imagination is revealed it creates the wonderful world of Art.

Art dares you to feel the emotions you’ve been suppressing in favor of the passion and persistence that it takes to see through completing a creation. The artist is the brave soul who takes this challenge, to deliver to you this wake-up call with vulnerable abandon. The Artist is patient soul who is willing to spend months or even years to create a document of a single moment in time that says, “This is what it was like to be alive.” This may be a subtle expression of beauty that takes your breath away, or a loud and desperate cry for understanding that knocks the wind out of you.

There is a huge risk factor that drives the Artist to commit to this life. It is a vision in our dreams that radiates from your heart that even though it is a huge gamble you believe it must be created. So we as Artists gamble even in the midst of all the other art in the world that my art will be noticed because I believe in the impossible and believe I have to create.

L.A. Cline started the Sports and Entertainment collection in 1996 with a Pastel Painting of Dan Marino. These paintings were created from nostalgia or from the actual events like Super Bowl XXXIII. Each Painting has its own incredible story. The Artist went out and started this separate collection which became artworks featured on ABC Channel 10 TV and showings at the South Florida’s Sun Life Football Stadium and the BB&T Hockey Stadium. These pieces were show stoppers and the Artist received many commissions when these pieces were presented to the public.

Sammy Sosa, “Up At Bat”
27 1/2″ X 32 1/2″ Pastel Painting, Artist,

To create this Original Framed Pastel Painting L.A. Cline was at the game in the dugout waiting for Sammy Sosa’s turn at bat. Passes to the games were not easy to get so the Artist had to dig deep to find something extremely memorable to paint.
You can feel Sosa’s feet planted firmly in the dirt while the force of his upper body twists to swing when the time was right. His cheek is puffed out with chewing tobacco or gum as he looked intently to see the pitch. It was an exciting forever moment.

Tony Bennett, 29″ X 29″

The Tony Bennett Original Pastel Painting is a very nostalgic creation showing the young singer starting out in what turned out to be a legendary career. The Artist actually met Mr. Bennett and showed him this painting and he loved it.
Although most of the coloration’s in the Bennett painting are grey if you look close his eyes are grey brown, the tie has grey blue and grey yellow diamond shapes and top of the microphone is a grey maroon. These hints of color add a slight bit of a modern touch to this nostalgic painting

Building the pastel pigment for these two paintings and all the original pastel paintings created by L.A. Cline is a delicate process that can not be rushed. To capture the realism and essence of the subject along with the depth of color using these pastel pigments require many layers. The Artist creates a pencil sketch to scale before each painting as the blueprint for the finished painting. The sketch, the painting and the framing for each painting takes about five months.

How the framing is constructed is very important to preserve the painting. Wooden frames are custom cut and have UV Plexi-Glass to encase the Pastel Paintings. Spacers are used between the frame and the glass so that the acid-free surface of the painting and the pastels does not touch the frame or glass preserving each masterpiece.

From a far these pastel paintings look quite real however when up close you can really see the different strokes and textures. What makes these original pastel paintings so extraordinary is that they are one-of-a-kind art pieces of Americana Memorabilia by L.A. Cline that cannot be reproduced.
