Wedding Bouquet Preservation

There is a moment at the end of every wedding night when someone quietly carries the wedding bouquet to a vase of water and hopes for the best. You know the flowers won’t last. But you set them there anyway, because letting go feels wrong.

The truth is, no preservation method truly captures what that wedding bouquet meant. Pressed flowers lose their dimension. Freeze-drying is fragile and expensive. Resin casting turns something organic and alive into something that looks trapped. And a photograph, however beautiful, is still just a photograph.

An original pastel painting is something else entirely. It is the bouquet — its color, its texture, its light — rendered in a medium that does not fade, does not wilt, and does not end up in a box in the attic.

Why the Wedding Bouquet Deserves to Be Painted

Think about what went into choosing your flowers. The conversations with a florist. The specific shades of ivory and blush. The trailing greenery your mother suggested. The single stem of something unexpected that turned out to be your favorite part. Every choice in a wedding bouquet is deeply personal — and most of that story disappears within a week.

A commissioned painting preserves not just the image of the wedding bouquet, but its feeling. With pastels, a skilled artist can capture the softness of a garden rose petal, the cool blue-green of eucalyptus, the weight of a hydrangea bloom with dozens of tiny florets catching light from different angles. These are things a camera flattens. A painting brings them back.

“With more than four decades of experience, the goal is always the same: paint what the photograph cannot show you — the life inside the flowers.”

The Pastel Difference

Not all floral paintings are created equal. Watercolor is beautiful but translucent. Oil painting is rich but slow to cure and less forgiving of the vibrant, layered detail that a wedding bouquet demands. Pastels occupy a unique place in the fine art world — they are pure pigment pressed directly onto archival paper, with no binder, no yellowing oil, and no color shift over time.

What this means for you: the blush pink of your garden roses will still be blush pink in thirty years. The deep burgundy of your dahlias will not darken or fade. Every finished painting is framed under True Vue museum glass — a premium, conservation-grade glazing that provides exceptional UV protection and clarity — ensuring the work is exhibition-ready and preserved for generations.

L.A. Cline’s process involves 20 or more layers of pastel built up over the surface, creating a depth and luminosity that is impossible to achieve in a single pass. The result does not look like a drawing. It looks like the flowers are lit from within.

How the Commission Process Works

One of the most common hesitations people have about commissioning art is not knowing where to start. The process is designed to be effortless — and it begins the morning after your wedding:

Email your photos immediately. Right after the wedding, email your best wedding bouquet photos to L.A. Cline. Professional shots from your photographer are ideal, but clear phone photos taken the day of work beautifully. Getting these over quickly helps establish the full color picture while the flowers are still fresh.

Ship the wedding bouquet as soon as possible. The original flowers are the primary subject of the painting. Ship them immediately after the wedding — the sooner they arrive, the more of their natural color, form, and character L.A. Cline can work from directly. Packaging instructions are provided in advance so you are ready to go.

Free consultation. L.A. Cline reviews everything — your flowers and your photos — and discusses the composition, size, and the details that matter most to you: a particular bloom, the ribbon, a specific flower that held special meaning.

Pencil sketch for approval. Before a single stroke of pastel is applied, you receive a photo of the proposed composition sketch for your review and approval. The original sketch remains in the studio as a working reference throughout the entire painting process.

Frame selection. Once the composition is approved, you choose your frame from a curated selection of options presented to you. Every painting is finished and shipped framed — pastel requires it — and each frame is fitted with True Vue museum glass, a conservation-grade glazing used by galleries and collectors worldwide.

The painting begins — with you kept in the loop. Working in natural light across multiple sessions, the painting is built up in layers until every petal, stem, and shadow is fully resolved. Throughout the process, you receive progress photos by email or text, so you can watch the work come to life from sketch to finished piece.

Final approval and delivery. You receive photos of the completed, framed painting for your approval. Once confirmed, a shipping quote is provided and the piece is packaged with the utmost care to ensure it arrives in perfect condition.

The Clock Starts at the Reception

This is not a commission you can put off until next month. The original wedding bouquet is the heart of the painting — the living subject that makes the work possible at its fullest level of beauty and accuracy. Once the flowers are gone, that window closes.

The ideal sequence is simple: plan ahead before the wedding, have packaging ready the night before, and ship the wedding bouquet the very next morning. Email your photos the same day. The sooner the flowers arrive in the studio, the more L.A. Cline can see and capture what made your bouquet uniquely yours — the exact curve of a stem, the precise blush of a petal at its edge, the subtle variations in color that no photograph fully records.

A note on timing: If your wedding is approaching — or has just passed — reach out now. L.A. Cline will walk you through exactly how to package and ship your wedding bouquet, what photos to send, and what to expect from the process. The consultation is free. The flowers will not wait.

Your wedding bouquet was chosen with extraordinary care. It carried you through one of the most significant days of your life. It deserves more than a vase by the window and a slow, quiet fade. Commission the painting. Ship the flowers. Give them the ending they were always meant to have.

Some Artists are very prolific and can turn out a painting in a day or a week. These Artists are most apt to be able to sell their originals. There are some Artists such as myself that require time to choose a subject, research and draw preliminary sketches before even starting on a painting that will take 4 to 8 months to create.

My name is L.A. CLINE and for over 40 years I have been painting with pastels. I love the way I can layer the pastels and create the soft magnificent texture of what I paint. First, I choose the subject. This is so very important because I have to love what I am painting since I will be working with that subject for months. My paintings must have an everlasting relevance to capture the beauty of our world for generations to admire.

People ask me why it takes so long? It take me four weeks to research and then sketch my subject and set up to paint the original. When you look at my paintings you will understand the complexity of the many 20 or more layers of pastel I apply to build color, texture, likeness. I paint in the morning, evening, sunny, cloudy, raining days to make sure that the painting will look great in all weather conditions. No over head lighting is needed because the lighting is built in within the layers of pastel over time.

“Tender Moment” is a very emotional and loving painting. Grevy Zebras are on the endangered list because of the their narrow and intricate stripes that reflect a fingerprint for each Zebra while most other species of Zebras have much wider stripes. The Grevy Zebras do not have stripes on their bellies but do have a long stripe from the top of their head to the end of their tail. They have big heads and large round ears and weigh 770lbs to 990lbs and the largest of the three species of Zebras and the most threatened. The Grevy Zebras were named after Jules Grevy the President of France from 1879-1887. They are also referred to as Imperial Zebras.

I was crouching very close to these two Grevy Zebras and was mesmerized for six hours and then the mother laid down as be baby foal moved closer to her. What a moment!!!

This painting took me 5 months to draw and paint. The stripes had to be exact. I used slightly lighter coloration’s of brown pastels for the young Foal since they are born reddish brown and grow darker as they mature.

For the past 20 or so years I have been working with an expert in Digital Fine Art. I combine this advanced technical process with traditional painting. We work together to digitally scan my original painting making sure to capture the whole look of the colors, contrast, brightness, texture and the look of pastel. Since I work on archival heavy cotton Fine Art Water Color paper the Digital paper is the same. It takes 5 or 6 takes sometimes more to make sure the digital image using archival inks is just like the original in every way possible. Every work I create I use museum quality materials.

Once I have my Digital Image it is mounted and I start the process of hand painting the digital image with layers of pastel and sometimes multi-media since I want each Art Collectible to be slightly different. This process takes about three weeks and then I choose incredible frame like this one from Italy with a wooden Silver Leaf frame on the outside and a second Black inner frame.

These Art Collectibles I create are labor intensive however they present themselves as a another beautiful one of a kind fine art original. This “Tender Moment” has layers of pastel and is framed with an Italian made of solid wooden brushed light pewter color with black and matching inside frames. An absolutely gorgeous work of art.

My art explodes with beautiful forever blooming flowers that capture their beauty. Since there is only one original I combine the advanced fine art digital technology with traditional painting methods to create a new fine art collections.

Flowers symbolize many of our feelings such as love, passion and past memories.

Nature gives us so many colors, lush flowers and trees that cover this earth and provides most of the worlds molecular oxygen. It is incredible that something as beautiful as a flower helps our world be a better place.

The medium I work with to paint each original is pastel. Every stick of pastel has its own consistency and brightness. Some sticks are hard therefore using them is critical since blending is more difficult, while other sticks are soft and offer easy blending. Knowing the different combinations of each pastel allows me to create the softness and tenderness of the flower with overall realism. One painting can take me months for I use a layering technique to build twenty or more layers to capture the true textures and colors of the flowers and leaves. Since there is only one original I re-create my originals as unique and limited framed prints of flowers.

The Original Framed Painting on the wall with the Fine Art Canvas Framed on the easel.

To extend my original painting collection I have developed a new technique. I take my original and put it through an extensive scanning process where the result becomes beautiful digital art. I then choose the materials such as acid-free heavy cotton paper or canvas. I paint layers of pastel, acrylic and/or oil paint adding original touches and a more three-dimensional look. The canvas and paper are a heavy acid-free stock absorb the colors deeply into the surface. Each one is unique and I only produce small unique limited framed editions . This new collection is exceptional because they are another original with new nuances and every detail in taken into account to preserve the art by using acid-free materials. These beautiful art pieces are very special because I create each to order, custom framed with exceptional wooden frames.

It is exciting owning a one of a kind piece from the unique collection. Each one of the framed prints of flower can be viewed on-line. Browse my collection and fall in love with my flowers!

I feel that most people think a commissioned painting is a portrait of a person. In most cases it is. However, these days there are other portraits that may also be important to you such as a portrait of your pet, entertainment portraits, sports memorabilia, landscapes, flowers and more!

My portfolio has beautiful portraits that are in Courts, Court Houses, Universities that are dignified works of art, such as this pastel Painting of the in the Lobby of the Lawson E. Thomas Courthouse Center, Miami, Florida. https://laclinefineart.com/galleries/corporate-portraits/

Then there are more casual pastel portrait paintings like this one of “Two Brothers in their Florida Panther Jerseys”. This family was really into hockey.

Both boys were playing hockey at a very young age and continued as they grew up. I remember talking to their parents about how early they had to wake up when they had away games. This portrait expresses the love they had for one another and their love of hockey.https://laclinefineart.com/galleries/portrait-paintings/

For the past fifteen or so years I have been Flowers! Nature as you have already seen in the painting of the two boys is a beautiful way to enhance any painting. Nature as the main subject matter is glorious. It brings us close up to the beauty of our world. The Red Rose of love is a symbol world wide. All the flowers in this painting surround the Rose which is appropriately titled, “Romancing the Rose”.https://laclinefineart.com/galleries/flowers/

I have another series of Roses, “Enchanted Bloom” that my client had to have because they reminded her so much of her Mother. Anything can become a portrait in your life.

A commissioned painting is a wonderful experience both for the subjects and the artist. Knowing you receive an original one of a kind work of art that will bring you joy is a piece of heaven.
If you are considering a commissioned painting I would love to speak with you about your ideas. L.A. CLINE, www.laclinefineart.com

Re-creating floral fine art takes time because a painting has to be created first. The inspiration for the painting is crucial. My desire to create must very strong and endure the test of time so I want to paint the original and then re-create the art. It’s very exciting to know I have the opportunity to offer fine art to others at a lesser cost.

With only one original I digitally scan the original then using the finest materials for this “Hidden Beauty” re-creation you see here. Sometimes I hand embellish a re-creation with the original painting right next to me. Embellishing is the closest to the real painting. The beauty of my hand embellishments brings the feelings of third dimension. Re-creating floral fine art takes time since you can only slowly and meticulously add embellishments and then allow them to dry.

Re-creating floral fine art takes time especially when Hand Embellished. “Romancing the Rose” measuring 40″X 42″

The archival digital re-creation above, “Romancing the Rose” is a one of a kind work of art on canvas that is surrounded by a brown fillet that matches the wooden brown frame. The inner white linen sets off the romantic natural beauty of this work of art. It is a large piece great as a focal point for an important entrance, fireplace or seating area.

The meaning of flowers is universal emulating feeling such as Love, Passion, Happiness, Joy and the Memories we cherish. Flowers are a personal connection to the beauty of our world that also makes us feel beautiful.

Every floral painting has a story. Besides the beauty of the art people want to know the story behind the art including the artist’s thoughts and creative process.

For the painting “Simply Beautiful”, I gathered what I thought were the special flowers from a bouquet. Then gently I tossed the flowers into a wide mouth vase until they gave the subtle yet powerful natural organic arrangement I wanted to paint. The softness of the petals along with the bold colors all pulled together to expressed to me a painting of harmonious beautiful floral art. Choosing a background I felt would blend with all the flowers letting each explode with their own beauty. Preparing everything before painting is essential. It is not until the original painting is finished that I can prepare for the highly technical digital process.

You can click on this link to view many beautiful examples of floral wall art on https://laclinefineart.com/galleries/flowers/

My floral paintings and floral wall art are beautiful expressions of the nature of our world.

Painting the artistic beauty of the flowers living all around connects us to our earth. The floral wall art archival digital fine art are beautiful and truthful representations from my original painting. As an Artist I create paintings from my heart. This framed fine art has been completely hand painted with the same pastels as the original and is an original of its own because it is a one of a kind.

“Simply Beautiful will endure the test of time because the subject matter is universal.

Creating a commission custom portrait by hand becomes a unique cherished art piece. The Mother of these “Two Sisters” wanted a very casual painting of her two beautiful daughters for her husbands surprise birthday party. Even though the younger dark sister was taller I made sure her older sibling posed higher so they both looked equally important. Sisters resting on a large orange rubber beach ball, cuddling casually together naturally expressing sincere family love.

Although unfinished, “Simply Beautiful” was posted on Facebook and LinkedIn. Allowing time between posting L.A. CLINE painted flowers to periodically update the painting.

Showing an audience unfinished art became a big decision. Realizing people really liked seeing paintings being created I posted starting with one white center rose in the center of the painting. At this point, I have already worked on the sketch and the rose for a month. I try to post updates weekly or every ten days, adding a new flowers. Creating more flowers required building layers of pastel to match areas already painted.

It was an adventure creating nature’s beautiful flowers. I did not expect the overwhelming reaction to the post. All the likes, comments, hearts, wows are so inspiring I no longer feel alone in my studio. In fact, I notice names that I recognize from earlier posts which is wonderful and seeing the new names is great!

Next step, looking for the ultimate frame. The frame will be custom build and custom stained so I have to do my homework and choose something that will ultimately surround this extraordinary painting. By ordering the frame now, I will finish the painting in time for the frame to be should be built.

I will continue to post updates on Facebook and LinkedIn until I finish this painting. Since there is only one original, my favorite thing is to create matching archival digital re-creations. Click here, view gallery on-line

Beautiful inspirations of flowers captures my soul to paint. To be inspired is something that comes naturally and cannot be rushed. The inspiration is all important for a painting because it has to endure the test of time, hold my attention to become a master piece.

Flowers are beautiful inspirations representing, beauty Love, passion, celebration, peace, and memories are all a part of the way we see flowers. Flowers give meaning and beauty to our lives.

For the last fifteen years I have been creating a gallery of my floral paintings https://laclinefineart.com/galleries/ . Each of my Floral pastel paintings take me months to create because of the way I layer the pastel. I work in various light conditions during the day and evening so the light peers through the 15 to 20 layers of pastel. Working with pastel is a challenge. I am so in love with pastel and the way it looks and presents itself that I continue to express and discover exciting ways to work with the pastel colors. In this fast paced world I slow down and become one with the flowers and enjoy combining the colors of each stick of pastel against the heavy cotton acid-free paper I use.

Since there is only one original, it becomes very important that I able to show my beautiful inspirations by bring able to create archival digital re-creations of my original. I hand embellish the Re-creation with the original painting right next to me. I use pastel sometimes adding acrylic and oil to create another texture. It feels like I am creating the original all over again only now it is a unique re-creation. These Re-creations capture the original painting and are a wonderful way to have a unique piece of Floral art that is a one of a kind work of art.https://laclinefineart.com/
